Sara and I just announced our Baltimore MD workshop for December and I really wanted to share a recap from our workshop together in February.

I loved teaming up with Sara for this Austin TX wedding photography workshop because we’ve been good friends for as long as I’ve been following her work. I love how she gets her clients to go beyond a normal engagement session and turn wedding portraits into adventures. The way she and Dylan have cultivated this following on social media. We discussed everything from working with a partner to light, posing, processing, SEO, social media, staying inspired to client interaction. We had two full days to discuss everything we had zipping around in our minds from our writers retreat in Charleston SC last November.

To be able to discuss the inner monologue we all have while shooting was powerful. Sara and I shared our thought processing during the two shoots we had with the group. Why we put the subjects in that light, what we’re trying to do with the composition, why we move when it isn’t working. I loved how true to form we kept the shoots; two locations found in most places (a cute shopping area, South Congress and a grassy field). And we didn’t plan the shoots any more than we typically prepped our clients.

We showed the breakdown of our post processing; our presets, editing, we shared the process we used and stayed after a little longer on the second day to wonder outside and look at “good light” vs “bad light.”

Can I admit the people that attended were an intimidating group? Not because they aren’t amazing, kind, and completely supportive, but because they’re all so talented. Spending two days with them, hearing the amazing questions they had for us was inspiring in and of itself. I want to thank everyone for coming out. For filling out workshop with questions, powerful inflections, and being new friends!

Some of the folks who attended have even blogged about their experience and you can read all about it on their blogs here: Kat, MelissaKendra, Malissa, Marisa, Monica, Anna, Cambria, and Kylie (some have two posts if you’d like to check them both out!). I also want to thank Leah and her husband for coming out and being our model on the first day! She’s a super talented photographer who’s local to Austin. :)

Sara and I just announced a workshop in Baltimore in December and I’m so excited to have a chance to team up with my best friend and one of my favorite photographers again soon! Here are some photos from our Austin workshop together.
