Since Sam and I bought a house last year, I keep thinking about all the big changes in life that can flip everything upside down; those life changes that shift your entire mindset and the course of your life.
Graduating from college with an art degree was a kick in the ass to figure out what I wanted to do with my life… and it’s how I ended up taking photos for a living. Living in different cities introduced me to a world of new cultures, taught me humility, and it’s how I came to love wedding photography. And now that we own a home, just knowing I’m ending my nomadic ways means I can go back to school, hang more art on the walls without worrying about patching holes, and I’m nesting for the first time in my life. There’s so much power in knowing where I’ll be physically in a few years, even as my life within this home changes around me.
And that’s brought me to what I’ve been really loving recently; portraits of families, especially families getting their start. It’s such a huge step into a new world. And Britney and Terence introduced Penelope into their lives not long ago so sharing these photos is long overdue.
These two amazing people and I drove around to see some overlooks, walk through wooded areas, and made our way down to the Hudson River for photos on a dock. They’re two incredible people and now, they’re two incredible parents. (Britney is also an incredible event planner based in New York and her work is absolutely worth a look if you’re planning a wedding!)
