A wedding venue that’s one part history museum, two parts art gallery, and a generous dash of an amusement park – well that’s Glen Echo Park! This isn’t your average walk down the aisle; it’s more of a merry-go-round ride into matrimony, and Emily and Beck were the perfect couple to take this venue for a spin.

As you can probably imagine, this particular wedding was less of the traditional “something blue” and more of the “something unexpected.”

From the moment you step into Glen Echo Park, you’re transported into a world where vintage charm meets artistic flair. Imagine an indie wedding where the carousel horses witness your vows! It’s a place where the words “charming” and “eccentric” come together for a delightful dance.

True to their free-spirited nature, Emily and Beck decided they wanted to get married in Maryland, closer to their families, and set about constructing a day infused with special touches that spoke volumes about their journey.
In a fun twist, Emily swapped roles with Beck and he approached her for the first look, all while holding his own camera to capture her expression in the moment. Capturing him, capturing her = priceless.

The ceremony was set in the Cuddle Up Pavilion, a bright red and white open-air space with an elevated stage, that was the perfect space for Emily and Beck. The pavilion saw a ton of laughter while the couple exchanged vows and made it official.

My favorite part though? Taking pictures on the Glen Echo Carousel, which was open and running during the cocktail hour. We got the bride and groom up in a cozy little loveseat, and as many of the wedding party as possible on all of those pretty ponies.

As the evening rolled in and cocktail hour rolled out, guests were ushered into the Bumper Car Pavilion for a festive al fresco reception. It was stepping into a time machine to a fun indie carnival, where string lights adorned the parquet dance floor, and greenery spilled from the tables.

Speaking of the dance floor, that gem was an exhibition of diverse dancing styles – from the hora to full blown indie get downs, this group had no problem shaking it off.

I was even able to steal the couple away for some unique wedding portraits among the bright neon lights among the park buildings. Tones of red and blue cast the most beautiful light on these quirky lovebirds. Full carnival-meets-editorial vibes that were perfect for the joy that radiated off Emily and Beck.

Photographing this wedding was like being on a joyful rollercoaster – full of unexpected turns and delightful surprises. From capturing the couple’s genuine laughter to the jewel-toned wedding portraits, every moment was a story waiting to be told.

Glen Echo Park is the place where indie meets quirky, where couples can celebrate their love without the confines of convention. It’s where you can have a first dance on a carousel and your portraits by a vintage candy store. If I can convince you to get married there, I’m invited, right?
