I’ve photographed a lot of venues, but Terrain at Styer’s in Glen Mills is one I keep coming back to in my head. It’s a working nursery, so the whole place is full of real plants and trees, with antique chandeliers hanging in the branches and crystal glasses set out on old wooden tables. In the late afternoon the light goes soft and warm, which is about the best thing you can ask for as a photographer.
Jamie and Rob are low-key people, and they wanted a day that actually felt like them instead of a checklist. No tulle, no tiaras, nothing borrowed from someone else’s idea of a wedding. That made my job easy, because all I had to do was pay attention.
They got ready together in the mushroom house on site. I love when couples do this. Being in one room meant I caught the quiet moments most people miss, the nervous laughing and the way they kept looking at each other before anything had even started.
The ceremony was set against a wall of living plants. When Jamie came down the aisle, the look on Rob’s face said everything. Their vows were honest and a little funny, and they walked back out through a cloud of bubbles.
The reception stayed relaxed. String lights over the tables, good food, full glasses, and dancing late into the night. Terrain’s greenhouses and outdoor fire pits gave it that easy, family-style feeling they were after.
What stuck with me is how much the day belonged to the two of them. Every part of it felt honest, and that’s the kind of wedding I most want to photograph.
